1989 Austin Mini 1000 City E
Only 11,300 miles
indicated; few owners; recent new shock absorbers; former show car with concours
potential
This Mini City E was bought new by a retired primary
school teacher in Bromyard in February 1989. She was 74 when she bought the car
and used it very lightly over the next 20 years, keeping it until she passed
away in 2009 by which time the car had covered around 8,000 miles. It then had
another local lady owner who kept it for five years and also used it sparingly,
covering only 1,900 miles before she sold it in 2015. The next owner kept it for
six years and only added another 1,000 miles before passing it to the
current keeper (his son) in March this year.
The car still only shows 11,266 miles which we are assured
is genuine and is partially backed up by eight old MOTs from 2001 – 2018, an
online MOT history check suggesting that the car was off the road in 2013, 2014,
2019 and 2020, and presumably also off the road in various years before
that.
A certificate on file shows that it won a ‘Highly
Commended’ award at a historic vehicle show in Swansea in May 2017, while a pair
of rosettes in the windscreen attest to other show appearances and an invoice
shows that it received a new set of four Sachs shock absorbers in 2011.
It certainly looks like a very low mileage example and
appears to be in highly original condition throughout. It has some corrosion
starting in the usual places (as shown in the photos) but the paintwork still
gleams and the interior is pretty well unmarked.
Starting promptly and running sweetly as we have moved it
around on site, it has an MOT until June 2022 with just a couple of minor
advisories relating to the rear exhaust section. An ideal starter classic for
someone, it could no doubt be made into a concours contender if desired with
some judicious attention to the bodywork.
