1968 Jaguar S-Type 3.4 Automatic
From 22 year
ownership; fully restored between '91-'93 at a cost of £23,000+Vat including
fitment of XJ6 upgrade parts, a rebuilt engine and new auto 'box; driven 50
miles to the sale
Dating from May 1968, this lovely
old S-Type must be one of the smartest we’ve seen in recent years and was driven
to the sale from Pershore by the reluctant long term owner who’s enjoyed this
beauty for nearly 23 years.
The car was fully restored by the previous
owner through the early 90’s (91-93) by the expert hand of a leading classic Jag
restoration firm in Exeter, Paul Kynaston. The costs and detail of which are all
documented in the car’s history file, suffice to say the cost was in excess of
£23,000 plus Vat.
The car has since formed part of a private Jaguar
collection with our vendor who looked after it ‘in-house’ and has always been
garaged and covered. From 2015 until recently, the car was taken off the road
and stored properly on blocks due to ill-health and has recently been
re-commissioned for use by Worcester Classic cars at a cost of £1,794 including
a new hi-torq starter motor, new fuel pump and PAS seals.
The history
file contains a multitude of old MOTs (17) dating from 1993-2015, and is of
course now exempt, the current and old style V5C/log books, original hand book
and maintenance guide, correspondence relating to the purchase and supply of the
car by Paul Kynaston Classic Cars in 1990 at 49,736 miles for £7,500 ahead of
the works subsequently carried out.
The 3.4 engine was fully rebuilt in
1991 during the work, re-bored with 8.1:1 pistons, re-ground crank with a new
oil pump, timing chains and recon cylinder head with supply of a new automatic
gearbox at the same time at a cost of £5,875. The car was then bare metal
stripped and painted in the original colour costing £3,450. The car was also
fitted with XJ6 carbs, XJ6 brakes and XJS rear brake callipers and Kenlow fan
kit.
In addition, the car was subject to a complete interior re-trim
including new leather seat covers, carpets, door panels and furflex along with
re-chroming the bumper and grill costing £3,525 in June 1993. The car was
finally collected in July 1993 with a re-set odometer (MOT’d June 1993 at 00012
miles – the car currently showing 18,683 miles).
Another file includes
bills dating from the mid to late '90s showing regular maintenance including
replacement door locks, replacement camshaft and other works and a couple of
insurance valuation certificates and useful spares info.
