1978 MGB GT
Only 16,000 miles since full
restoration; rebuilt unleaded engine; power steering; overdrive; uprated
suspension; electronic ignition; chrome bumper conversion; walnut dash; Minilite
alloys; Webasto sunroof; very nice indeed
As the Heritage Certificate confirms, this lovely MGB GT
was built in January 1978 and was supplied new via Kennings of Chesterfield.
Equipped with an overdrive gearbox, it was finished in Carmine Red with a
silver/grey cloth interior and was, of course, originally a rubber bumper model.
The first owner took delivery in March 1978, as detailed in correspondence on
file from Kennings, his name also being in the original Passport to Service
book.
There are many bills for upkeep over the years but things
get most interesting between 2008 – 2010 when the car was treated to a full
restoration by the previous owner as shown in copious invoices and photos on
file.
Many new panels were professionally fitted during the
restoration and the car was converted to chrome bumper spec with new suspension
springs to lower it to the correct chrome bumper ride height, most of the work
being done by MRS Classics of Tamworth. It was also fitted with a Webasto
sunroof, a new windscreen, new fuel tank, Minilite-style alloys and resprayed in
Tartan Red – much more vibrant than the original Carmine Red.
The interior was completely retrimmed and upgraded with
new seat foams and covers, walnut dash, MotoLita steering wheel etc.
Brakes/steering/suspension/gearbox were all rebuilt as required and a newly
rebuilt engine with an unleaded cylinder head was supplied and fitted by
Tamworth Engines.
The full extent of the work is too detailed to cover in
full here, but rest assured it was all done to a high standard and the car still
looks very smart today having covered only 16,000 fine weather miles since the
restoration was completed. In fact it has even won awards at shows, the last in
2015.
More recently, in 2018 the car was fitted with a power
steering kit supplied by the MGOC which cost £975+VAT and fitting. New rear road
springs, water pump, brake discs/pads, heavy duty front shock absorbers and
battery have also been recently fitted. An indoor car cover is also included
along with a Haynes workshop manual.
Our vendor spotted the MG for sale in April last year and
has enjoyed it greatly, reporting that it was last serviced about 500 miles ago,
it drives beautifully and is as good as it looks in all respects. He is only
reluctantly selling it because neither he nor his wife are quite as young as
they thought they were and they both struggle to get in and out with dignity.
Bid vigorously now and their loss could be your gain…
