Description
1958 Austin-Healey Frogeye Sprite
Recently
restored bodywork resulting in a pretty example ready to go for
summer
The car
was bought by the vendor's father and being a professional car
restorer, he checked it over and found that the car was on the
whole very solid, having had new floors and sills etc. It had been off the
road for a while so did need some work.
The brakes were overhauled; fitting all new cylinders and
a master cylinder. The clutch was seized so that was replaced; the engine had
loads of oil leaks and they were sorted, but we are advised that the rear
crank seal is leaking again now.
All new springs were fitted along
with refurbished shocks. The carbs were stripped and
rebuilt. An
electric fuel pump was also fitted and general servicing to make the car
reliable. The car was
used up until January 2020 when the vendor's father was taken ill and
could no longer drive. He had used the car regularly during the summer
months.
In summer
2020 the vendor had the car back and attended to the bodywork; total
strip down to bare metal, re skinned doors new bulkhead top etc. He spent
lotsof time getting the shut gaps looking good. Its all steel bonnet was
actually rot free. He powder
coated the wheels, fitted new tyres and a gave it a general service.
The car is 12v
pos earth and retains its dynamo. The side
screens are present along with a tonneau cover and black vinyl
hood.
There
is plenty of paperwork but nothing before the late 80’s. Some previous
MOT’s, and a hand written account of work carried out before it was purchased -
in a school exercise book. There is a
heritage certificate, hand books and a genuine Austin period workshop manual in
a binder.
The fuel gauge
doesn’t currently read and the cable is missing for the rev counter, though
we are told it would work with a new cable drive. Other than
that its ready to go...
