1980 MG Midget 1500
Ideal use and improve
example through some light recommissioning; smart interior and hood; in the
current ownership since 1999
This late model MG
Midget 1500 was first registered in February 1982 although the last car rolled
off the production line on 7th December 1979. The car dates as a
1980 model on the V5C, imported and registered in the UK in 1982 and is
currently finished in traditional green although it was originally white (colour
change 1998 according to Experian) and sits upon a set of pretty 13” Minilite
style alloy wheels which transform the 1500’s looks.
The black vinyl top looks to be in sound order, with clear rear
windows and the bodywork straight with some areas of paint degradation that you
might wish to improve over time.
Inside, we
find a set of retro-fit cream leatherette seats piped green which hugely
improves the comfort and appeal of the midget along with matching door cards and
beige carpets.
The car started and ran to move
it around for these shots although the brakes felt like they were rather spongy.
The vendor suggests it might benefit from some light recommissioning having
seeing little recent use.
The history file
includes the V5C revealing the car to have been in the same ownership for the
last 22 years with 13 former keepers, old V5C, two old MOTs and selection of
bills for consumables and service items mostly dated 2016. The Midget does not
have a current MOT, the last expiring in July 2011 at 102,400 miles recording
five advisories. The odometer currently shows 102,488 miles (02,488) suggesting
just 88 miles have been covered since that last test in
2010.
Ideal to recommission then use and
improve, these late model 1500’s are probably the most user friendly Midgets of
them all with looks that are coming back into popularity. If those big rubber
bumpers are not your thing, why not remove them and give it the sporting Sebring
style look instead?
