Description
Restored 23 years ago; recent new tyres and service; loads of history
back to the early 1980s; driven 50 miles to the sale
First
registered in November 1968, this Daimler 250 V8 comes with a vast file of
invoices extending back to the early 1980s. There are 14 old MOTs which show
that it had covered an indicated 66,069 miles by 1983, a total which has since
risen to 80,229 miles. It seems from the bills that it was restored in 2000 with
many new parts and a full respray, being converted to run on unleaded fuel at
the same time. It has only covered around 3,000 miles since.
In February 2002 it was featured in the ‘Cars
you can buy’ section of Classic Car Weekly, the article stating that: “This
Daimler is superb. The paintwork is excellent and the whole car looks unmarked”
also stating that “it drives as well as it looks”.
In early 2021 it had another major bout of expenditure which
included a new fuel tank, new electric fuel pump, new gearbox pan gasket and
sump pan gasket, new oil pressure sender, new battery plus various other
items.
Our vendor acquired the car at a
Matthewson’s auction in October 2021 for much the same amount as the estimate
suggested here. He has since treated it to a full service and fitted four new
tyres, reporting that it drives very well indeed. However, he has just bought a
classic commercial to promote his local butcher’s business and only has garaging
for one car, so sadly the Daimler has to go.
As
you can see in the photos, it looks to be in generally good order although it is
not quite as smart as it was when CCW wrote about it 20 years ago. There are a
few bodywork blemishes here and there and the paintwork has microblistered in
several areas. Driven some 50 miles to the sale, it has been starting promptly
and running well as we have moved it around on site, with good 50psi oil
pressure.
