Lot Ended
Description
Exceptionally straight and solid non-sunroof example that has never
been welded; just serviced with new brakes, tyres, battery, timing belt etc; a
nice little runabout as it is or would make a great donor shell for a 205 GTI
project car
“The
definitive Eighties hatchback and the most perfect, practical design for a small
car ever. Diesels economical, GTi is huge fun, no rust traps, last well” –
Honest John.
Launched in 1983, the Peugeot 205
was a brilliant rival to the Renault 5 and the Ford Fiesta with its ‘wheel at
each corner’ design and flyweight 750kg kerb weight. No wonder it won What Car’s
‘Car of the Year’ in 1983 and was declared ‘Car of the Decade’ by CAR Magazine
in 1990. While it was the sporting GTi versions that grabbed all the headlines,
even the diesel versions won praise for their perky road manners and miserly
fuel consumption.
First registered in January
1996, this 205D has the 59bhp 1.8 diesel engine mated to five-speed manual
transmission which gave it a top speed of 97mph and 50mpg economy. It has
covered 91,000 miles to date in the hands of eight owners, the current since
February 2020. Although it comes with no service history, it has clearly been
well looked after with a very clean and tidy blue cloth interior and
impressively straight and rust-free bodywork which we are told has never been
welded.
Earlier this year it was treated to a full service following
three years in dry storage which included: fresh engine oil and filter; fresh
gearbox oil; new timing belt; brake overhaul with new front calipers, new rear
shoes and new copper pipes; new track control arms and wheel alignment; four new
tyres; new wiper blades and a new battery. The underside of the car was
also cleaned, painted and waxoil treated.
A
non-sunroof model, it has an MOT until February 2024 with no advisories
recorded, the MOT history online showing that it has never had any advisories
for corrosion to the bodywork or structure. The paint on the roof has gone a bit
flat in places but other than that it looks very good for its
age/mileage.
Starting promptly and running well as we have moved it
around on site, this freshly serviced Pug would be a nice daily runabout
for someone or would make a great donor vehicle for a GTi project
car.
