Description
Original right-hand drive car supplied to South Africa; believed to be
one owner since new; from a large private collection; showing 86,800 miles; one
of only 599 made
Introduced in 1957, this
Pininfarina bodied saloon was straight out of the luxury Flaminia line produced
by Lancia. Very much the flagship model of the Lancia range,
the saloon had a grandiose limousine appearance and appealed to the
Ministerial class of the Italian government - and to film stars like Audrey
Hepburn who owned a dark blue Berlina for many years. Out of the
12,600 Flaminias built, only 3,943 Berlinas were produced and only 599 in this
2.8-litre V6 128bhp format. Survivors are exceedingly rare today and it is
doubtful if there are more than two or three others in the
UK.
This one owner Berlina was
first registered in South Africa and was imported to the UK only
last month. A NOVA number has been recorded proving that no duy is due and
a V5C has been applied for (NOVA24P707187).
Looked after as part of a large collection in SA, it seems to be a
very original machine with the exception of a complete grey leather retrim and
repaint less than three years ago.
Driven to
the sale with no known issues, it has had an electric fuel pump fitted
and the steering joints and oil cooler were refurbished just prior to the
auction. Under the bonnet looks lovely and original, the indicated
mileage of 86,800 being believed to be correct.
At the time of writing, we have not seen any paperwork, although
the aforementioned V5C should be en route and we have a copy of a Lancia
Heritage Certificate confirming its identity and manufacture in June
1963.
Bidders are advised that since arrival, the brakes have lost their
fluid so its lucky new owner won't be driving it home...
