Description
Two-door MkI Escort ripe for restoration; rolling project with engine
and 'box; wide arches; lots to do, lots of potential...
Dating from December 1973, this later model Ford Escort MkI left
the factory in 1300GT guise which was the performance version of the humble
Escort, with a tuned 1.3 litre Crossflow OHV four-cylinder engine under the
bonnet.
This example looks ripe for restoration
having been purchased by our vendor earlier this year, but has become one
restoration too much and is offered for sale ‘as is’, as a rolling shell with an
engine fitted. It has evidently
been used in the past for some kind of fast road/rally work given the roll hoop,
bucket seats, wide arches and rally style instrumentation
fitted.
We have not had the car running, and it
is not known if it has run in recent years or what engine is currently fitted or
in what state of tune/health.
The shell and
underside evidently need work but given the demand and popularity of the
venerable two-door Escort MkI, we expect the bidding to be vigorous as this is
potentially a blank canvas to be returned to stock as a 1300GT or built into
something else for road or race.
The history
file includes just the V5C stating 1300GT and a print-off from the website ‘how
many left’ which suggests there may only be 107 1300GTs still UK registered
making this a rather rare version absolutely worth saving.
