Lot Ended
Description
Only 24,200 miles with 8 service stamps, the last only 600 miles ago;
recent new tyres; 460bhp and 190mph; rare model, one of only 1,566
made; cost over £170k new
The last car
to be hand-built at Aston’s spiritual home in Newport Pagnell before moving to a
mass production facility in Gaydon, the 2001 V12 Vanquish had ‘classic’ written
all over it from the outset.
Styled by Ian
Callum with chassis input from the boffins at Lotus, its construction contained
the DNA of endurance racing cars – a body tub made of bonded aluminium braced by
a carbon fibre backbone to form a shell of exceptional
rigidity.
The state-of-the-art suspension used
aluminium double wishbones, coil springs, mono-tube dampers and anti-roll bars
front and rear, the aim being track car handling with near saloon car ride.
Ventilated disc brakes with four-piston callipers brought the big GT to a
halt.
Central to the Vanquish’s purpose was an
engine capable of fending off the top European supercars from Ferrari,
Lamborghini and Porsche. With input from Cosworth, the 48-valve 6-litre V12
developed 460bhp with 400lb/ft of torque readily available in the engine’s mid
rev range. Allied to an F1-style paddle-shift 6-speed gearbox, this made it good
for 0-60 in 4.5 seconds with a top speed of 190mph.
Like the DB5 before, the Vanquish was considered worthy of 007 in
the film ‘Die Another Day’. And like James Bond, its impeccably tailored
exterior oozed sophistication while leaving one in no doubt of the latent
violence within.
Supplied new by Lancaster
Sevenoaks in February 2002, this Vanquish has covered only 24,138 miles with
eight service stamps in the book, the last only 600 miles ago by AM specialists
Pugsley & Lewis in January this year which cost £3,906 and included 12 new
coil packs and spark plugs. The preceding two services were by Broughtons of
Cheltenham and the previous five were by Aston Martin Works in Newport Pagnell
with various supporting invoices.
A 2+2 model
with useful rear seats, it is finished in Stronsay Silver with a black leather
interior and has a Tracker theft recovery system fitted although the
subscription for this may need to be renewed. It has had five owners to date,
the fourth keeping it for 15 years (2007 – 2022) with the registration number
JUS 11N.
Supplied with all its original
aluminium-cased handbooks, it has an MOT until January 2024 with no advisories
recorded. As you can see in the photos, it is in excellent condition for its age
with just a few very minor paint blemishes that we could spot. The wheels have
been refurbished very recently and a new set of Kumho Ecsta tyres fitted.
Starting promptly and running nicely as we
have moved it around on site, with no warning lights and a very seductive
exhaust note, it is on offer here at an attractive guide price and would have
cost over £170k new.
With only 1,566 V12
Vanquish coupes (and 1,012 Vanquish S models) made in total before it was
replaced by the Gaydon-built DBS in 2007, this is a sure-fire classic of the
future.
