Description
In the same family since 1985; smart example restored in 2006; winner
in the 2008 RM Riley annual concours awards
The
early history of this Riley is not known although it appears to have been with
the current owner's family since 1985.
Photographs on
file show the car in a very sorry state, presumably in the '80s/'90s, and
although not documented, we understand that it was completely stripped down in
2006 and restored to what can be seen today.
The engine was removed and reconditioned, the crankshaft reground
and new big end shells fitted. The paintwork was stripped and re-done. All seat
covers and door cards were re-covered in the brown leather you see today. By
2014, it was looking like the magnificent machine one sees here. That said, we
understand it still won a prestigious award at a 2008 RM Riley event, presumably
when not quite finished!
The file we hold for
the car only shows the photographic evidence of the restoration and a summary of
the history mentioned above, although an online check of the
MOT history shows it has been in regular use, covering about 10,000 miles
since 2008. Although it no longer needs one, the current MOT is valid until June
2024 and only shows a minor advisory for an oil leak.
Running, driving and gleaming, we think this a beautiful example of
the RM series.
