Description
Impressive and utilitarian Unimog; ex-Singapore army; 50mph
capability; high & lo ratio 'boxes; used as a working vehicle by our
vendor for ground clearance work; showing just 77,657km; registered as an
agricultural vehicle with DVLA; a mighty and imposing
vehicle
Dating from 1987 this Unimog is undoubtedly
one of the most imposing vehicles in the sale, and on the road – we haven’t met
anyone who’s seen it and not had an inexplicable yearning for this
real-life Tonka truck.
Rugged, incredibly capable
and loved the world over, whether in commercial form, civilian form, military
guise or even race form in the Dakar rally, these ‘Mogs can do it
all.
This truck, a 435 series 1300L Unimog
(acronym for the German words for ‘Universal Motor Equipment’) came into the UK
in late 2020 and was registered here in January 2021 having previously been
employed by the Singapore Army, thus right-hand drive.
Under the bonnet, we find a turbocharged (factory fitted) 5.7-litre
water-cooled straight-six OHV diesel engine,
with
power sent to all four wheels, and in this case, we understand 50mph+ can be
achieved in the right conditions due to its high-speed diffs and clever gearbox
which offers eight forward gears including two creeper gears and similar reverse
gear options.
Stopping comes courtesy of air brakes, with long
travel coil sprung suspension with wide offset rims (original wheels available)
shod with big tyres, new uprated head lights (originals included) and a most
useful PTO-driven Werner hydraulic winch.
The
fixed bed can carry 2.5 tonnes and the truck is capable of towing another 8
tonnes – so it seems there’s not much this epic truck can't do. The
'Mog is also registered with DVLA as an agricultural vehicle which means various
bonuses for those in that field (get it), meaning no need for an MOT
either.
In the cabin, we find black vinyl seating
for three, an escape or gunner hatch on the roof, a dazzling array of switchgear
and gauges, TFT screen (reverse camera we are told) and most effective
Erberspacher type cabin heater.
The history file
includes the V5C showing one former keeper (importer) plus our vendor, an
English language operator’s manual along with some supporting bills for bits
done to the truck during his tenure.
The truck shows just 77,657km (c.48k miles) which is believed to be
correct.
Our vendor has used the truck as
its makers intended for his land clearance business, but with the purchase of a
new Valtra tractor it is now surplus to requirements. Serviced in-house during his tenure and
recently treated to new discs and pads, the truck looks ready to be put back to
work or just enjoyed on the homestead.
