Description
Nice, usable MkII 1.7 litre four-speed manual with overdrive;
comfortable interior; disc brakes; straight and solid with a current MOT
until March 2025 with no advisories
First
registered in Bristol in 1966, this appealing Humber Sceptre MkII is
finished in Bronze and looks to have remained in stock form with a straight and
solid body.
Positioned at the top of Rootes Group
of ‘mid-range’ cars it was, and remains, a quality motor car with a 1,725cc
twin-carb four-cylinder petrol engine at the front, driving the rear wheels via
four-speed manual transmission with overdrive and front disc
brakes.
Inside, we find comfortable black vinyl
seating with space for five, full array of instrumentation, manual windows and
retro-fit modern radio/cassette player.
A note on
file from the last owner suggests the car was used up to c.1975 when it is
believed to have been laid up until father and son semi-restored it in 1997 from
when it was garaged and used very lightly, an online check of the MOT
history showing that it covered only a handful of miles between its annual
trips to the MOT station. It looks
like the car was then laid up for a couple of years following the death of the
owner in 2017 until our vendor acquired the car.
The history file includes only the original owner’s handbook, copy
old V5C, current V5C showing two former keepers, the above-mentioned note from
previous owner, letter from DVLA, exemption from MOT confirmation and the
current MOT valid until March 2025 showing no advisories which is most pleasing
for a car of this era.
Starting promptly and
running well as we moved it around for these images this looks like a most
appealing example with a nice time-worn patina to the paint finish and interior
with lots to offer for a very modest sum.
