Description
One-family-owned from new (father and daughter); 107k miles
with 19 service stamps; exceptionally clean, tidy and original example
of this bullet-proof Benz; driven 100 miles to the sale
Supplied new in March 1987 by Castle’s Mercedes of Leicester to its
first owner Dr Shah, this handsome W124 series Merc 230E saloon was
kept by the doctor until he passed away in 2022 when ownership transferred
to his daughter. It has covered 107,280 miles to date with an excellent
service history comprising 19 stamps in the book, the last at 102,756 miles
in November 2017.
Being a 1987 model, it does not have the ugly plastic
'Sacco planks' which were fitted to the lower body on later
cars. Finished in Grey/Black metallic, it rides on 15” flat-face alloy
wheels which look to be in excellent condition shod with a matching set of
quality Michelin tyres.
It is powered by the bullet-proof
2.3-litre M102.980 four-cylinder eight-valve petrol engine which develops 136bhp
and 205NM of torque, driving the rear wheels via four-speed automatic
transmission with switchable Standard/Economy mode which makes it good for a top
speed of 125mph.
The interior has light grey cloth seats, Zebrano
wood trim, electric front and rear windows, electric passenger door mirror,
manual seat adjustment, cruise control, heated rear window, electric tilt/slide
sunroof and period Blaupunkt Melbourne radio/casette player with electric
boot-mounted aerial in black to match the car.
As you can see in the
photos, the car is remarkably clean and tidy and must have been garaged
throughout its life. The bodywork is very sound and straight with just the
odd minor blemish here and there (as pictured). The interior is also
very smart with just the usual slight warping of the trim below
the driver's door window and the rear passenger door window (an easy fix if you
look on YouTube). The carpets have been protected by rubber overmats
and are in excellent condition. The spare wheel looks like it has never
been used and there is also a brand new radiator grille in a box in the
boot because the one on the car has a couple of marks in the chrome.
Supplied with all its original
handbooks in the original wallet, it has an MOT until November 2024 and
still has the original supplying dealer stickers in the rear window,
original number plates, original mud flaps, original first aid kit and two
sets of keys.
Driven over 100 miles to the sale, we are told
that it drives beautifully with lively performance, excellent brakes and
that famous W124 'magic carpet' ride quality. It has been starting instantly and
running nicely as we have moved it around on site, with excellent oil
pressure and no warning lights. It even has half-a-tank of petrol - what more
could you want?!
These W124 Mercs are beautifully built and can clock up
vast mileages with ease: they really are designed to last a lifetime and owners
tend to hang on to them for years. This unusually well-preserved,
one-family-owned gem hides its 37 years remarkably well and is certainly
worth a look at the guide price suggested.
