1989 Volkswagen Transporter Camper
Converted from a panel van; 1.6 diesel power; solid looking truck hand finished in lilac purple, solar panel and rock n'roll bed
Somewhat eye-catching and of a Marmite disposition (like it, or loathe it) this purple VW was originally a Transporter panel van from what we can deduce and has been converted into a camper. It maintains its well proven, naturally aspirated 1.6 diesel power plant and manual 'box.
Finished in its alluring shade of purple, this T25 looks to have been hand-painted on close inspection, with some areas of discolouration (see images) but on the whole, looks not too bad. The underside looks to be well sorted and solid, indeed it comes with a clean MOT valid until September 2021 without advisory and shows 153,758 miles in the hands of its 7 owners, the current, a lady since July 2018. Within the history file, we find the V5C, 3 old MOTs, original service booklet with three old stamps, the last in 1989 at just 10,240 miles and a selection of invoices which include money spent on four new tyres in July 2018 aong with a further £75 on a new exhaust section and gaskets and £40.96 on a new shock absorber at the same time. In addition, a typed note in the file suggests a new cylinder head and gasket was fitted in January 2008, a new clutch installed in November 2009 and new starter motor and injectors in early 2011 plus other bits although there are no receipts to prove this.
Up top, we find a useful and eco-friendly solar-panel for off-grid living along with roof rack. Inside, we find a rock and roll style bed (serving as both a sofa and bed) along with retrofit timber units, fridge, sink and three-burner gas hob, three-pin plug and USB, upgraded face-off stereo and speakers, what looks like a new carpet head-lining, curtains and lots of storage bins.
Starting promptly and seeming to run as it should as we moved it around for these shots, colour (and finish) aside, it looks to be a good truck and very usable, particularly given everyones sudden Covid-desire to holiday domestically.
