1985 Range Rover Classic
Two-Door
Later 300TDi engine fitted; R380 5-speed manual
gearbox; new shocks and springs; wide wheels; recently imported from the sunny
South of France; very eye-catching in Warwick Green with green-tinted
glass
When the four-door version of the Range Rover finally came out
in 1981, it proved so popular with UK buyers that the two-door version was
discontinued in 1984. However, foreign markets continued to appreciate the
original design and the two-door remained available in LHD until the second
generation P38A came out in 1994.
Dating from January 1985, this Range
Rover RR200 two-door has spent all its life in the sunny South of France, hence
the good state of preservation today – the underside looks very smart indeed. At
some point it has been fitted with a later 300TDi turbodiesel engine mated to a
5-speed manual R380 gearbox.
Although there are no invoices with the
vehicle, we are told that it has also recently had new headlights and indicator
assemblies, new suspension springs and shock absorbers and a new battery. The
original Rostyle steel wheels have also been professionally banded/widened to
fit bigger tyres which give it a most purposeful stance.
Finished in the
1980s shade of Warwick Green with green-tinted glass, it has been backdated
slightly with earlier steel bumpers. A modern CD player has also been discreetly
fitted under the dash. Currently showing some 173,075km on the clock (107,500
miles), it was imported to the UK last year, flying through its MOT in December
2020 with no advisories recorded and has only covered around 4,000km since
(2,500 miles).
Supplied with a V5C and a copy of its most recent French
logbook when it was resident in the Prefecture de la Haute Garonne, it has been
starting promptly and running well as we have moved it around on site. A
particularly eye-catching example with an exceptionally sound chassis, it looks
like a handy bit of kit and no doubt has at least another 35 years of useful
life ahead of it.
