1987 Jaguar XJ-SC V12 Auto
Just 75,700 miles; TWR-fitted body kit; strong service history
The Jaguar XJ-S has at last come of age, achieving the full classic status that it so richly deserves. Powered by what is widely regarded as the finest V12 engine ever made, it mixes effortless performance with superb refinement and reliability. Rated at 295bhp and 320lbft of torque in its later guises, in its day it was capable of 150mph and 0-60mph in under eight seconds.
Launched in 1983, the XJ-SC cabriolet was a versatile design that combined lift-out targa panels with a folding rear hood and is now a much rarer car than the full convertible that succeeded it in 1988.
This example was supplied through Appleyard in Bradford in May 1987. They looked after it until 1995 by which time 60,000 miles had been covered. There are 13 service stamps to cover this period, a futher three, again from main Jaguar dealers and one final from Arun, Jaguar specialists in Pulborough in 2017 at 73,995 miles. That is 17 stamps in total. It has only covered 2,700 miles since.
The current MOT expires in August 2022 and shows just one minor advisory for a 'fluctuating' handbrake whatever that might be. We are told that the TWR bodykit was fitted by TWR and that the car comes with the relevant storage system for the targa tops and a hood cover in the boot. Bidders are advised that the rear perspex screen shows some discolouration.
It was driven some 60 miles to the sale and certainly ranks as one of the better examples of the rare V12 XJS-C that we have had the pleasure to offer and is well worth close inspection.
