Description
1999 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 (4th Gen)
UK
supplied from new with just 2 owners and 104,254Km (64,780 miles); rare high
performance Z28 version with 5.7 LS1 V8
Supplied
new by Arriva Vauxhall of Bristol in March 1999, this face-lift 4th
Generation of Chevrolet Camaro is rather unusual to find as a UK supplied
example which makes it rather special, as with its Z28 High Performance
specification.
Finished in a lovely hue of
green, the car rides on its original 16inch five-spoke alloy wheels and looks to
be in stock order bar fitment of a pair of Sports tails which help the car shout
a little louder and sound simply divine.
Under
that rather long and sculpted bonnet we find Chevrolet’s masterful LS1 V8
engine, here in 5.7 litre form as a Z28 model offering 310bhp and 461NM of
torque driving the rear wheels via four-speed automatic transmission with
fitment of a Torsen differential (from 1999 year onwards).
Offering a surprisingly Sporty drive, the suspension is firm yet
comfortable with bigger brakes than the pre-facelift cars and a lighter engine
(LS1 Vs the old LT1 lump) it gave the car improved handling and
performance. The Camaro Z28 was
effectively the four-seat version of the C5 Corvette sharing its engine and
other bits with its two-seater sibling with similar
performance.
Inside, we find tan leather with
electric driver adjustment with adj. lumbar (also on the passenger side), cup
holders, air conditioning, electric windows, electric mirrors, front fog lights,
traction control, heated rear screen, radio/cassette with CD changer and rear
seats that are actually usable along with a large boot with electric release and
folding rear seats.
The car shows just
104,254Km which equates to just 64,780 miles which have been covered by just two
owners from new, the first from new until January 2022 with the car presenting
well, with a couple of minor cosmetic defects as pictured and a smart interior
with minimal signs of wear commensurate with its age/mileage.
The
car started and ran well as we moved it around for these shots, feeling sharp,
firm and responsive with a simply wonderful All-American V8 sound from its twin
rear pipes. We were treated to a
short blast in the car by the vendor, ensuring we understood how well the car
goes, feels and sounds too.
The history file
includes the V5C confirming two owners, the owner’s manual and service booklet
showing it to be supplied new by Bristol Vauxhall as mentioned along with 13
service stamps including seven by the supplying Vauxhall dealer and the rest all
by the same garage, Bristol Autocare with the last stamped service in April 2021
at 99,221 Km.
In addition, we find a couple of
invoices for replacement rear wheel bearings in February 2022 at 100,699Km
costing £298 and works relating to the last MOT in July 2022 including a strip
and clean of the front brake callipers, new wiper blades and adjustment to the
hand brake. The current MOT is valid until 26th July 2023 and
recorded six minor advisories (enter the reg at
check-mot.history.gov.uk).
Ready to be enjoyed
this is a rare and desirable high performance Z28 variant of the American
legend, with usable 2+2 seating and all the performance and sound track you
could want – the thinking man’s Corvette?
