Description
1961 Ford Falcon Two-Door Sedan
Imported from
America in 2007 and in regular use since; very sweet engine; remarkably sound
body; lots to like!
A scaled down
version of the humungous Ford Galaxie, the Falcon could still seat six adults in
reasonable comfort and remained in production from 1960 - 1970 in various body
styles including two- and four-door sedans, convertibles and station wagons. The
standard engine was a 94bhp 2.4-litre Mileage Maker straight-six allied to
three-speed manual column-shift transmission. From 1961 a more powerful 101bhp
2.8-litre (170ci) unit was available, with optional two-speed Ford-O-Matic
transmission and claimed 30mpg economy.
This
1961 Falcon Two-Door Sedan has the 2.8-litre engine and auto 'box with the more
rounded styling of the first generation models which ran from 1960 – 1963. It
was imported from Seattle in 2007 and has been in the current ownership since
2016, notes on file stating that the engine had been reconditioned prior to
shipping. While there are no invoices to substantiate this, it has certainly
been starting instantly and running very sweetly indeed as we have moved it
around on site.
The bodywork is in remarkably
sound condition, both above and below, notes on file stating that it “has never
been welded and has no rust”. An online check of the MOT history shows that it
has never had any advisories for corrosion since coming to the UK and has been
in regular use, clocking up some 16,300 miles since 2007. Although it no longer
needs one, the current MOT runs until May with just one advisory for wear to the
o/s/f tyre.
In generally good condition
throughout and not too big for British roads (and not too thirsty either!) it
looks like a lot of fun at the guide price suggested.
