Description
First entered service for the MoD in 1954; transferred
to civilian use in 1973 and only two registered keepers
since
We understand that this Champ was
restored by the previous keeper and although there are no bills to support
this, it had a comprehensive strip down and rebuild after being found in a
rather sorry state.
The body and chassis were
shot blasted, primed in red oxide then painted in deep bronze green. Many of the
other components were restored, renewed or replaced and once completed, it hit
the show circuit. Due to ill health and the Covid hiatus, the Champ had a brief
time of inactivity between approx. 2019 and late 2022, before being sold to our
vendor, who has recommissioned and serviced it, preparing it for
re-sale.
The body is generally in good order,
although carries some historical dents and chips here and there and the
chassis/suspension also all appears to be sound.
The vendor has recently driven about 40 miles in it, testing its
capability on and off the road and of course forwards and backwards! (at a
similar speed…..). They have reported that everything seems to be in working
order, although the temperature gauge didn’t seem to be operational so that may
need looking at. Some small oil leaks here and there too but no more that should
be expected for a vehicle like this. The keen detail spotter will also have
noticed that the windscreen wiper arms and blades have been recently fitted from
a Series IIA Land Rover.
A lot of fun and not
too common to see, this Rolls-Royce-powered Champ comes with a small box of
spares and is ready to be enjoyed.
