1979 SIRIUS 6 Steam Canoe
15'6"; comes with early Watamota two stroke engine to fit;
reversable prop; very sound hull; trailer included; well-known Henley boat; Sewn
GRP and mahogany ply construction; very pretty
This delightful small
canoe started life in 1979 when it was fitted with a Stuart Turner steam engine
(no long fitted).
The vendor acquired it as a project, along with a
simple two-stroke Watamota and propshaft with reversing prop. Perfectly size
matched, he was attracted to it as its installation would give much the same
pleasure as the steam engine without the complication of a boiler
certificate.
The mahogany-skinned bare hull only weighs 70 lbs and seats
two and although the supplied Watamota and propshaft have never been fitted, it
doesn't look too much of a task. The condition and suitability of the magneto
supplied is unknown.
The engine is a K1 model, number 2110 and we are
told that Watamota engine number 10 was made in 1921 - production numbers are
unconfirmed but it looks to be an early engine - which turns freely.
A
photocopy of a photo showing the Canoe in the water at Henely when
steam-powered shows its lovely lines in the water - clearly there is a lot of
fun to be had with this, which comes with a handy trailer upon which it was
delivered to us.
