1.8 Zetec 105 version of the MkV escort XR3i showing just 27,191 miles; in
storage for many years with useful recent recommissioning
works
Dating from October 1993 this MkV Ford Escort comes to us in
desirable three-door XR3i guise and is finished in Cayman Blue, sat upon its
original 14” five-spoke alloy wheels in silver.
Under the bonnet, we find the 1.8 litre EFi Zetec four-cylinder
petrol engine developing here, 104bhp driving the front wheels via five-speed
manual transmission.
Inside, we find grippy
grey cloth interior, manual sunroof, electric front windows, heated front
screen, front fog lights and a digital clock. Eagle eye’d viewers may have noticed the
headlining is missing as with the sunroof winder and lower steering column trim
as pictured. We also note the water temperature gauge is stuck on maximum even
when off and there is no needle for the fuel gauge. The boot contains various bits of trim
and boxes, some of which we assume are for the interior but no
headlining.
The car shows 27,191 miles,
although these speedos reset to zero when they clock 99,999 miles and we have
insufficient history to back this mileage up. The history file includes the V5C
revealing four former keepers, the last of which owned the car from 2002 to 2020
which is when it looks like the last MOT was issued (September 2020 with two
advisories at 27,008 miles) after what we assume to have been time off the road
given there are no digital MOT records bar this.
The file also includes three bills, the first from August 2020 for
£988 including removal and clean of the fuel tank, replacement fuel pump and
sender, refit of a starter motor, lube service plus new HT leads plus supply of
a timing belt and water pump kit.
The next bill
comes from September 2020 which was for fitment of the timing belt and water
pump kit plus a brake service with new hoses, two bottom arms, four tyres,
tracking, rocker cover gasket, repair to starter motor electrics, an MOT and a
repair to the electric windows. The final bill on file is for sundry repairs and
bits.
The car has no current MOT, the last
having expired in September 2021 as mentioned but the car started promptly and
appeared to run well as we moved it around for these images and
video.
An interesting opportunity to continue
to bring this now rare Fast Ford back up to par.
Bidders please note,
a colour change is mentioned on the Experian report from Grey to Blue in June
1994, although the plate under the bonnet does state Cayman Blue as the
colour.
