Description
Just one owner and 10,000 miles from build; well-known car that was
displayed at the NEC in 2022
Launched in 1983, the
Aristocat was a Jaguar XK140 replica based on a kit designed by Autotune which
the enthusiast could build at home using donor components from an XJ6.
Built within the spirit of the original XK Series and with written
permission from Jaguar, it used a steel spaceframe chassis bracketed to accept
the XJ6 running gear, with a lightweight GRP body on top. As the XJ6 was 5”
wider than the XK140, the Aristocat has a more spacious cockpit and boot than
the original XK and drivers well over 6ft can be easily
accommodated.
Complying with all the
criteria laid down by the IVA test requirements, the Aristocat successfully
blended classic looks with modern mechanical components to produce a very
capable sportscar – the original prototype being timed at 0-60mph in 6 seconds
with a top speed of 150mph.
This
particular Aristocat was built by our vendor (a Chartered Engineer with 40
years’ experience and until last year the Chairman of the Aristocat Owners
Register) over a 5-year period. Completed in 2009, it passed its SVA test in
February of that year and has been properly registered with the DVLA as a 2009
Autotune Aristocat.
The donor vehicle was a
1985 Jaguar XJ6 with automatic transmission, electronic fuel injection,
power-assisted steering and 92,800 miles on the clock. The engine was fully
overhauled during the build with new big end and main bearings etc. and it has
only done 10,000 miles since, the odometer currently showing 102,800
miles.
Finished in Oxford Blue with a blue leather interior, it rides on
15” MWS bolt-on wire wheels and has a black mohair hood and sidescreens, all in
good condition. Well-maintained by the vendor, it comes with 14 MOTs to chart
the gradual accumulation of mileage from build, the current MOT being valid
until June 2024 with just a couple of advisories for uneven tyre wear, the
tracking having been subsequently corrected.
Well-known to the Aristocat Register, it has featured in national
and international media such as Kit Car Magazine and the US
Reincarnation website and was also displayed at the NEC Classic Motor
Show in November 2022. The vendor can supply a complete photographic record of
the build process if desired.

As you
can see in the photos, it looks very clean and tidy throughout and has been
starting promptly and running well as we have moved it around on site, with good
50psi oil pressure.
