Brightwells are pleased to report a large crowd to witness an excellent dispersal sale of the Greenyards Herd on behalf of Phil and Alison Allman. The herd was established in 2003 and has been a successful herd with some excellent bloodlines and families.
Averages: 17 show heifers, £2,396.47; 17 bulls, £2,890.59; 13 sale only heifers, £1,425.58
Solpoll 1 Perfection from J and W McMordie, Ballygowan, Co Down was the pick of the bidders and the judge at the Hereford spring show and sale at Hereford market.
Top price was Lot 27 belonging to TL Prichard, Castellau Fawr Farm, Castellau Flock, which sold for £2205.00 to Justin Evans of South Glamorgan, Sant Andras Flock.
The female trade flew at the Hereford Cattle Society’s autumn show and sale, held at Hereford Market, with a new market record set for a Hereford female as Shraden 1 Alice P809 from MJ and HM Timmis, Baschurch reached 7,500gns, selling to JD Hodge, Berwick-Upon-Tweed.
Shearling rams finished on £606.87 for 182 sold; a clearance rate of 86% and +£1.72 on 2017. The auctioneer reported that shearling rams were easy to sell, with just a few lesser pens failing to find buyers. Although ram lamb trade might have felt stickier they also returned a very respectable average of £469.85 up £9.47 on 2017 with a 71% clearance rate.
