Top price was Lot 27 belonging to TL Prichard, Castellau Fawr Farm, Castellau Flock, which sold for £2205.00 to Justin Evans of South Glamorgan, Sant Andras Flock.
The 29th Official Sale of Standardbreds attracted the largest bench of prospective buyers for what was the biggest catalogue of Standardbreds offered by Brightwells for many a year.The yearlings as always, proved most in demand, commanded the top prices and were sold to buyers from all corners of the UK and beyond.
The 65th Fayre Oaks Sale overcame the worst of the remnants of hurricane Callum which had made many roads in South Wales impassable due to severe flooding. In many places it was the worst flooding in Wales for over 30 years. However it did not deter the usual enthusiasm this sale brings and proceedings got under way slightly later accommodating those who had to detour many miles to make it to Builth Wells.
This month saw a slight drop in the number of entries after our biggest ever sale in September, we did however see some market-leading prices fetched & a red hot trade! We sent hundreds of vehicles & machines off to new homes and were able to achieve top prices across the spectrum, from loading buckets to 30T excavators and everything in between! The female trade flew at the Hereford Cattle Society’s autumn show and sale, held at Hereford Market, with a new market record set for a Hereford female as Shraden 1 Alice P809 from MJ and HM Timmis, Baschurch reached 7,500gns, selling to JD Hodge, Berwick-Upon-Tweed.
159 of the 216 lots on offer had successfully changed hands to give a healthy sale rate of 74% for a total of almost £1.2m, with bidders from as far afield as Australia and America plus most of the major European countries and a lone bidder from Switzerland.
Shearling rams finished on £606.87 for 182 sold; a clearance rate of 86% and +£1.72 on 2017. The auctioneer reported that shearling rams were easy to sell, with just a few lesser pens failing to find buyers. Although ram lamb trade might have felt stickier they also returned a very respectable average of £469.85 up £9.47 on 2017 with a 71% clearance rate.
This month saw our highest ever grossing machinery auction! A huge quantity of entries coupled with a flying trade meant that by the end of the day we were left with very few unsold lots and lots of happy vendors. All sections performed well this month with some stunning results in the plant, tractors, HGVs, grounds maintenance, farm machinery, trailers & sundries. We are now looking for entries to our next auction on the 12th October & expect another big sale.
Curiosity, coupled with enthusiasm and wine, is mainly to blame. A collection of fifty eclectic cars and motorbikes, following no exact set pattern - encompassing everything from Maserati motorbikes, Lamborghini tractors, Welsh motorbikes, 2CV’s, to Russian military invalid cars.
Brightwells and the Anglo European Studbook will hold their first dressage foal auction on Saturday 22nd September at Stoneleigh Park, during the weekend of the LeMieux National Dressage Championships.
