1993 BMW 840CI Coupe
Only 73,900 miles; 12
services to date and considerable spend over the years; less than 1000 left
registered in the UK; fast-appreciating model
The
flagship model of the BMW range, the eight series was luxuriously trimmed inside
and was packed with all the gadgets that its jet-set client base could wish for.
Initially powered by an all-alloy 5-litre V12 that produced 295bhp and a mighty
330lb/ft of torque, this was soon joined by a more economical 4-litre V8
version. Producing 286bhp and mated to a five-speed automatic gearbox, the 840Ci
could sprint to 60 in just over 7 seconds on its way to an electronically
limited top speed of 155mph.
Costing
over £60,000 new, the 840 was always an exclusive machine with only 2,190 built
for the UK market of which less than 1000 are still registered here today,
according to DVLA figures. Rare, fast and beautifully styled and built, this is
a sure-fire classic of the future.
The
example offered here was purchased new in May 1994 and is finished in Orient
Blue with full grey leather upholstery and looks very smart throughout. It has
covered only 73,900 miles to date with a good history file including 12
stamps in the service book, the last in November 2017, along with plenty of
historical invoices. In 2018, it also had a smart Sony stereo
fitted.
Last put
through an MOT in 2018 with only one minor advisory (‘o/s/f lower suspension arm
pin or bush worn but not resulting in excessive movement’) the car has not been
used regularly since, although was driven to the sale and has just been fitted
with a fresh battery, so it is certainly a usable head
turner!
