1981 Peugeot 504D Pick-up
Go-forever
utilitarian pick-up hidden away in a Shropshire barn for 31 years with just
two-owners from new; runs and drives but requires
recommissioning
Dating from March 1981 this rugged and oddly
appealing old truck has been in the same ownership since February 1984 and was
recently pulled out of a Shropshire barn after some 31 years in slumber, not
having been taxed since 1989. The odometer shows just 45,288 miles, given its
lack of use just 2-owners and time off the road, this may well be correct.
The truck starts with a jump and runs, although there is no alternator
fitted it moves around easily enough, the clutch and gears engaging/disengaging
as they should although the brakes feel like they are binding somewhat (useful
given the rather lacking brake pedal feel!) The driver's door lock
mechanism also did not want to play ball so we entered and exited via the
passenger door around the 4-speed manual floor mounted shift. The floor
pans in the cockpit appear sound as does much of the truck. The rear
wheels were fitted to permit movement but are included, the originals are in the
load bed along with other miscellaneus parts belonging to the
vehicle.
The vehicle evidently requires a degree of recommissioning/light
restoration, although there's much to be said for retaining some of the rugged
look and patina perhaps. The 2.0 naturally aspirated diesel engine
is considered to be one of those lumps that's largely indestructable as
with the transmission - the interior has held up well and the bodywork at first
glance may seem rough but looks solid in general, as does the underside - but we
will let you be the judge of that.
Within the history file, we find some
original booklets and old tax discs but little else so the new owner will need
to apply to DVLA for a log book with the neccessary form (which we can provide)
and a cheque for £25 to obtain a replacement V5.
A cool and rare old
pickup that absolutely deserves to see the road again.
