1967 MG BGT MKI
Appealing chrome bumper
example from 23 year ownership; showing 65,401 miles with only 5,449
miles covered in this time; recent £9k spend
This early B GT comes with a nice story. The vendor’s late husband
went out one morning in June 1999 for the Saturday paper and came back with a
gift for his wife, this charming June 1967 MG BGT in Old English White with
black leatherette interior piped white, matching black door cards and black
carpet, proper chrome bumpers and wire wheels.
Our lucky wife has enjoyed the car lightly over the last 23 years
and not stopped loving it. To this end, it was recently treated to a spend of
some £9,000 with a local (to her, in Cardiff area) retired engineer who
undertook to recommission the car following some time in storage through the
Pandemic which included replacement LH and RH quarter panels, both door skins,
both front wing tops to the scuttle, rear wing tops with lead fill as required
along with a series of repairs to the floor and sills, re-paint of the car and
also fit new front indicators, headlamp bowls, starter solenoid, five new wheels
and tyres and fitment of a new steering wheel and boss (original wheel
included).
Unfortunately, it looks like the
clutch slave cylinder (we believe) has failed on the way up because we can only
start the car in gear to move it around so we would advise the winning buyer to
collect via transport or on your own truck/trailer as a
result.
That aside, the car presents well and
looks very pretty. We did notice
the paint might benefit from a mop and polish to really get it to shine properly
too. Under the bonnet, we find the
familiar 1800 B-series four-cylinder engine which started and ran as it should
(in neutral!) and manual transmission with O/D.
The history file includes only the old style V5C, Haynes manual and
six old Mots dating back to 2000 at which time the car showed 59,952 miles. The
odometer currently shows 65,401 suggesting just 5,449 miles have been covered in
the last 22 years. The last MOT expired in April 2014 with no advisories
recorded, the car being of course, MOT and Tax exempt now.
