Description
Body-off restoration in the early 1990s and sparingly used since;
overdrive; new high torque starter motor; recent new hood and tonneau cover;
excellent MOT history; driven 50 miles to the sale; a sparkling TR2, ready to
enjoy
First registered
in 1954, this pretty TR2 comes with very little history but over 20 photos show
that it was treated to a full body-off restoration in the not-too-distant past.
While the photos are not dated, the V5C states
that it was first UK registered in May 1990 and HPI records a colour change from
green to white in 1994 so that is perhaps when the restoration was completed. It
was clearly a top-notch job because the car still looks great today.
The MOT history online shows that it was in very
light use from 2006 – 2012, covering only 1,500 miles over this six-year period
and always flying through the test with no advisories recorded. It has only
covered another 2,500 miles since, the odometer currently showing 5,993 miles
which could well be the distance covered since it was restored – who
knows?
A few invoices show that it had a new
high-torque starter motor in April this year; new points, condenser, HT leads
and clutch slave cylinder in May 2024 and a new tonneau cover in October 2023.
The hood also looks fairly new and the side-screens, although older,
are in good shape too.
Finished in gleaming
white with a lovely red interior, equipment includes: overdrive; chrome wire
wheels; boot rack; badge bar; twin front spot lamps; wind deflectors and a
battery cut-off switch.
Our vendor acquired the
car earlier this year as a gift for his daughter but it turns out she doesn't
share his enthusiasm for classic motoring and can't tolerate the lack of power
steering, hence its appearance in this sale.
We are told that the
car drives as well as it looks and it has certainly been starting promptly
and running very nicely indeed as we have moved it around on site, with healthy
45psi oil pressure. We had no complaints about the steering either, so maybe the
vendor's daughter needs to eat more greens?!
Driven 50 miles to the sale, this sparkling TR2 is ready for a new
owner to enjoy and will be a fine way to scoot around the lanes over the
summer.
