Incredibly rare French saloon; stored in a shed in Reims until 2024;
now UK registered
Offered here is a rare 1929
Benova B3 Saloon, (born out of the French Cyclecar manufacturer, Benjamin).
Known as Daffodil, she is fitted with a 954cc Chapuis Dornier OHV 4-cylinder
engine, 4-speed-gearbox and represents one of very few Benovas believed to exist
in the UK—possibly as few as three or even less.
The car was purchased at the Reims Autojumble in 2024 and imported
into the UK with all official paperwork completed. After a year-long process due
to its rarity, it is now fully UK registered with a non-transferable
registration. The original French registration is also known and remains painted
on the car.
Prior to purchase, the vehicle had
been stored in a shed near Reims for approximately 20 years. Since import, it
has undergone a detailed restoration and we are told is now in running
condition. The gravity fed petrol tank and lines have been recently
cleaned and pressure tested, so all Daffodil needs now is a gallon of fresh fuel
and a good run out.
Within the last 18 months or
so, the engine and magneto have been overhauled, there have been new brake
linings, rods, and re-machined brake cams, new fabric couplings for dynamo and
magneto, wiring loom with custom
colour-coded woven cables, bulbs throughout with original lamps retained and a
new radiator core.
The exhaust pipe has been
extended to prevent cabin fumes and there has been a thorough cleaning and
conservation of parts and bodywork, with period-correct interior repairs. A
correct speedometer also fitted after being purchased at
Retromobile.
The wheels have also been re-spoked
and fitted with new tyres.
The car is eligible
for the VSCC Light Car Section and would make an excellent candidate for vintage
events or light regular use.
