Galvanised
chassis; rebuilt by the retired vendor to
complete road tours and training mountain rescue teams in and around Scotland;
Has covered an astonishing 60,000 miles in three years!
The
Land Rover Series III is a rugged, utilitarian 4x4 known for its off-road
prowess, simple mechanics, and classic British design. This example was first
registered in June 1975 as a short wheelbase featuring a 2.25L Inline-Four
petrol engine.
When
the vendor retired, he wanted to tour Scotland in a Series Land-Rover and bought
this one for its extremely low-mileage engine, just 18,000 miles, to install
into a 1960s Series II he planned to restore. However, he didn’t have the
heart to scrap it - they all have a story to tell.
Instead,
he sold the Series II as a project. Using the proceeds, he completely
rebuilt this Series III around a galvanised chassis, fitting it exclusively
with new parts, ranging from doors and seats to the petrol tank and parabolic
springs. Both the engine and gearbox were professionally refurbished, and it
became his daily driver.
Over
the past three years, starting with the West Coast 500, it has covered an
impressive 60,000 miles without ever missing a beat.
He has just serviced it with new oil, which he changes every 3,000 miles, as
well as an air filter, spark plugs, and a new battery.
The
car starts and drives as it should. Aside from small patches of the bodywork
showing signs of galvanic oxidation (he used stainless steel nuts and bolts
throughout), this Series Land-Rover will provide its next owner with many
years of enjoyable motoring.
Now
offered for sale as the vendor has purchased a classic from us to undertake a
tour of Europe in. Who said retirement must be
boring!
