Late model GT from the last year of production; semi-prepared for
competition use; ideal basis for track days, sprints or club
meets
First registered in North
Yorkshire in August 1981, this MGB GT must be one of the last ones made as
production ended in October 1980. Apart from a few historic invoices from the
early-2000s there is no real history with the car, but 18 old MOTs show that it
has always been in regular use, clocking up some 58k miles between 1988 and
2009, with another 12k miles added in the last 16
years.
HPI records a colour change
from yellow to grey in 2018 so it presumably had a degree of restoration at
around that time. It has clearly been prepared for competition use at some point
in the not-too-distant past, including a half roll cage and a very professional
looking aluminium fuel tank in the boot. The engine has an alloy rocker cover
and K&N filters but other than that we can’t really tell you much about it.
De-bumpered and adorned with black racing stripes, a Mountney
steering wheel and a sports exhaust, it certainly looks and sounds racy and
rides on a set of 14” Minator alloy wheels shod with a matching set of Goodyear
Eagle NCT tyres. A book on MGB Special Tuning is also
present.
Our vendor acquired the car
fairly recently from a London gent who had owned it for the previous five years
and had reputedly spent much money on the bodywork and the mechanics. He was
planning to go to town on the car and turn it into a proper track day weapon but
has since lost his storage space, hence the MG's appearance in this sale.
As you can see in the photos, this sporting GT looks reassuringly
straight and solid and has been starting promptly and running well as we have
moved it around on site, with healthy 55psi oil pressure.
