This left-hand drive 1970
MGC was imported from the USA to the UK in July 2018 and subsequently held by
just one UK keeper since its arrival. Finished in classic Old English White,
this striking example is said to have benefited from expenditure in excess of
£80,000 to create a Sebring-style recreation, resulting in a highly distinctive
and purposeful road car with considerable presence.
Unfortunately, the company responsible for the restoration disbanded
shortly after completion, meaning there is no documentary history to confirm the
precise scope of works undertaken. However, based on inspection and information
provided by the vendor’s friends and family, the car is believed to have
received extensive mechanical and cosmetic upgrades. These are said to include
wide fibreglass arches, a fully rebuilt engine with performance enhancements,
stainless steel exhaust system, Turinno wide chrome wire wheels, gas-adjustable
shock absorbers all round and twin cone performance air cleaners. Further
reported improvements include an oil cooler with spin-on oil filter conversion,
alternator conversion, upgraded starter motor, servo-assisted brakes and
adjustable electric power-assisted steering.
We
have now received invoices for the complete engine rebuilt plus additional work
with a full description of what was carried out by MG Motorsport totalling
£11,271.35 on top of the £80,000 already spent on the
restoration.
The interior has reportedly been
completely refurbished, featuring new seat covers, door panels and a stereo
system upgraded to modern standards, creating a cabin that combines period charm
with contemporary usability. It is understood that numerous additional
modifications may have been carried out beyond those listed. An independent
classic car restorer Brewster Mudie ltd, who delivered the car to us on behalf
of the current owner following a light recommissioning at a cost of £2548.48
(detailed invoice supplied), has commented that the condition underneath is
every bit as impressive as the exterior presentation.
We are advised that the owner sadly became unwell shortly after
completion and was therefore unable to fully enjoy this beautifully prepared
MGC. During our time with the car for photography and video, it has started,
driven and stopped without issue and presents itself as ready to be enjoyed
immediately. With its performance enhancements and modern equipment, it is said
to be more than capable of keeping pace with modern traffic, making it an
exciting and usable classic for the coming summer.
