Launched in 1983, the
first-generation K10 Micra quickly
established itself as one of the most dependable and cleverly engineered small
cars of its era. Its lightweight construction, all-alloy MA-series engines and unfussy
mechanical layout earned it a reputation for reliability that few rivals could
match, while its tidy proportions and ease of use made it a favorite among city
drivers and new motorists alike. Early, unmolested examples have become
increasingly scarce, with most long since succumbing to everyday use, corrosion
or modification, making surviving cars in original condition surprisingly hard
to find today.
This model features the MA10 engine, a lightweight,
all-aluminium 1.0-litre known for its durability, simplicity, and lively
character. Its aluminium block and head kept weight very low, helping fuel
economy and responsiveness, while the straightforward SOHC design made it
reliable and easy to maintain. Producing around 50 hp in standard form, it
became well-regarded for lasting high mileages with basic
care.
This 1985
Micra 1.0 DX is therefore a particularly pleasing find. Showing just 64,286
miles, it stands out for its remarkable originality and its status as one of the
earliest examples now qualifying for tax, MOT and ULEZ
exemption.
Finished in red with a grey interior, it retains a host of
period features seldom seen today. Original Datsun-branded key fobs, factory mudflaps,
correct center caps and an interior that remains unmarked thanks to
long-fitted seat
covers.
The
paintwork presents very well for the age, with a depth of colour that suggests
careful ownership rather than neglect. With only four former keepers from new,
the car has clearly led a gentle life and avoided the fate of so many early
Micras.
Driven 25 miles to the sale and she has been starting on the
