The flagship Daimler Double Six 6.0;
showing only 36,688 miles; Supplied by St Helier Garages Ltd Jersey;
subsequently owned and stored as part of the Jaguar Daimler Heritage
Trust
By
the early 1990s the XJ40 platform was approaching the end of its production
life, but it bowed out in considerable style. The flagship Daimler Double Six
6.0 represented the pinnacle of the range, pairing the familiar long-wheelbase refinement with
Jaguar’s enlarged 6.0-litre V12, an engine renowned for
its uncanny smoothness and effortless delivery. These late-run cars are now increasingly sought
after, combining traditional Daimler luxury with the last and most developed
iteration of the V12.
Finished in British Racing Green with Magnolia
hide; this 1993 example has covered only 36,000 miles from new. Supplied by St
Helier Garages Ltd on 23 April 1993, it is believed to have spent the majority
of its life in the care of a well-regarded luxury hotel on Jersey,
where it appears to have been maintained and preserved to a notably high
standard.
Exported from Jersey in 2011, the car was
subsequently owned and stored as part of the Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust,
remaining in dry storage until recently. Its service history is reassuringly
complete, with 11 service stamps recorded up to 32,800 miles, and just one known
keeper during its time on the island.
It retains two original Jaguar key sets, the
matching alarm fobs, and even the original St Helier Garages key ring. Condition
throughout is described as excellent and pleasingly original, with the bodywork
notably rust-free for an XJ40 and the interior
presenting extremely well.
Following its long period in storage, the
Daimler has received a basic recommissioning, including fresh engine oil and a
new battery, and now starts, runs and drives. As with any car returning to
regular use after extended inactivity, some light remedial work may be required,
but the fundamentals appear sound.
A rare opportunity to acquire one of the last
and most desirable XJ40-era Daimlers, showing low mileage,
excellent provenance and unusually well-preserved
condition.
