1975 MGB Roadster
Restored in 2008; only 1,000 miles on rebuilt unleaded engine; reconditioned overdrive gearbox; new clutch kit; leather seats; recent new hood; stainless steel exhaust; well-maintained; excellent underneath
First registered in June 1975, this smart MGB Roadster started out in life as a rubber bumper model and was originally blue but was colour-changed to red in 1998, according to HPI/Experian. The previous owner, who owned the car from 2004 to 2014, treated it to a full restoration in 2008 when chrome bumpers and chrome wire wheels were fitted.
Although there are no bills for this work, notes on file state that it received many other new parts including: front wings; doors; sills; floor panels; front and rear suspension; tyres; carpets; leather seat covers; door cards; carpets; Mota-Lita steering wheel and a new mohair hood. It was also fitted with a reconditioned overdrive gearbox and engine from a 1971 model (more power than the 1975 model) and an unleaded cylinder head.
He then kept the car garaged and used it very sparingly, taking it on holiday once a year trailered behind his motorhome, clocking up barely 600 miles over the next six years, as evidenced by old MOTs on file.
Our vendor acquired the car in March 2014 and has maintained it meticulously ever since, as shown in many invoices on file. New parts fitted between 2014 and 2018 include: oil temperature gauge; K&N air filters; radiator; hoses; alternator; dynamo adjusting pillar; flasher unit; front shock absorbers; 5-blade fan; stainless steel exhaust and fresh gearbox oil and overdrive filter.
In 2018 the engine was rebuilt by Gloucester MG Centre at Ryeford Garage with new main and big end bearings, new timing chain and tensioner, new oil pump etc. The carbs were also rebuilt and a new clutch kit fitted, the bill for this lot coming to £1,122. More recently it has had a new electric fuel pump, new coil and HT leads plus various other items. The vendor states that the suspension has been greased every spring ("crucial to protect the kingpins") and the oil and filter changed every year.
Affectionately known as ‘Jemima’, we are told that the MG has always been kept garaged in the current ownership, is used in fine weather only, drives beautifully and always turns heads wherever she goes. She has only covered around 1,000 miles since the engine was rebuilt and has good 50+psi oil pressure.
As you can see in the photos, Jemima looks very smart and she is in excellent condition underneath although the paint finish on the bonnet does have a few swirl marks. She is a real eye-catcher nonetheless and looks very tempting at the sensible guide price suggested.
