1993 Land Rover Defender 90
Turbo diesel
engine; fully rebuilt on a galvanised chassis; poly-bushed; galvanised bulkhead;
all new brakes; 16" alloys; the car that will last a lifetime...
The
early history of this Defender 90 is largely irrelevant, as it has been so
comprehensively rebuilt that it simply needs to be considered for what it
represents today.
It was purchased by the vendor in 2016 from Hereford
4x4, with a new MOT and a three month Warranty as a fully rebuilt vehicle, based
on a 92,500 mile 200Tdi hard top dating from 1993.
The rebuild is
based on a Richards galvanised chassis and galvanised bulkhead. The
bodywork was reused after a coat of Oslo blue paint, the panelwork beneath has
certainly been well used as you can see from the pictures. A later smooth roof
was added and a full Exmoor trim package installed including a heavy duty mat
kit and full headlining.
Hereford 4x4 added a swing-away spare wheel
carrier, a necessity on all Land Rovers as the weight of the spare
wheel was always too much for the rear door to cope with, and a heated rear
window and radio/CD.
The front bumper was galvanised, along with the
turrets and spring seats and the axles fitted with heavy-duty shocks and
standard-height heavy-duty springs. Polybushed throughout and with new track
rods, copper hoses, discs and calipers etc, the underside was then thoroughly
waxoiled.
The engine was checked over and fully serviced, including a
cambelt and new rear main seal and a heavy-duty clutch fitted.
Top it
off with chequer plate, new 16" Boost alloys, centre tray and uprated lamps
- you start to get the idea that this rebuilt Landy was specified
regardless of expense.
Further bills on file show continued maintenance
and it carries an MOT until October 2021, few miles having been added since all
this work was carried out - the odometer still only showing 95,232 miles
today.
If you are looking to buy a Defender to take to the Tennis Club,
this may not be the one for you - the evidence of a former life of hard work
showing in the panels on the car. If you want a Landy that you can pass on to
the kids however, then this would be perfect, Hereford 4x4 effectively
future-proofing it by using galvanised components and updated
hardware.
With Defender prices already in the stratosphere, this well
sorted example starts to make a lot of sense.
