1985 Citroen 2CV 6 Charleston

A well sorted and well cared for example; driven 30 miles to the sale; economical and great fun to drive

Launched in 1948 the Citroen 2CV was designed to fulfil the brief for a car that could carry two persons and a 50kg sack of potatoes across rough ground at a speed of 60km/h (37mph) with a fuel consumption of no more than 3 litres per 100km (94mpg).  A masterpiece of minimalist design, the finished ‘umbrella on wheels’ was made from mostly flat stamped panels, cheap and easy to repair, and was held together with just 16 bolts. Although the original 375cc air-cooled flat-twin engine grew, eventually, to 602cc, the 2CV's performance remained modest at around 70mph flat-out, not that that concerned the majority of its devotees for whom the roomy interior, full-length sunroof and frugal fuel consumption were of far greater importance. Production finally came to an end in 1990.

This four-owner Charleston comes to us with a recent no advisory MOT which expires in May 2023 and shows some 75,000 miles from new.

It was sold to its first owner through Dearnside Motors, Barnsley and first registered in March 1985. They looked after it for five services (stamped) and it had covered 9,356 miles by April 1986. It retains its full book pack with Handbook and Servicebook. There are multiple bills on file dating back to 2014, including king pins, a new hood and general bills for service, care and maintenance. In 2017 a new exhaust was fitted at service as well as a brake master cylinder.

A year later, the king pins were changed again, along with four shocks and electronic ignition fitted. In 2019 the car had a new clutch.

Since then, it has covered around 5,500 miles and was driven to us some 30 miles with no bother, using very little petrol into the bargain!

This car has been in regular use for many years and looks to have many years of life left in it.
