1986 Porsche 944
On offer at No Reserve with lots of MOT history and old bills; sun roof bag from long term ownership but not on the road since 2015; with later model D90 alloy wheels
Dating from 1986 and supplied by AFN Limited of Middlesex this pretty Porsche 944 comes to us finished in shiny Guards Red and sits upon a set of 16” retro-fit Design-90 alloy wheels usually found on the later S2 model of 944.
Under the bonnet of this example, we find the 2.5 litre inline four-cylinder M44 engine which developed 161bhp driving the rear wheels via five-speed manual transmission, with a trans-axle layout giving the car near perfect 50.7:49.3 weight distribution which gave the 944 enviable handling characteristics.
This example comes to us from 11-year ownership and looks to have had a recent cosmetic overhaul (undocumented) which has freshened up the paint and bodywork no end and really shines.
Inside, we find an oh-so-period pin-stripe brown cloth interior with electric adjustment to the driver seat, and as an 85+ model, the facelift dash design (which was carried through until the end of the 968) electric (lift out) sunroof with storage bag, electric windows, electric mirrors and radio.
The car shows 151,530 miles which is typical for a 944 of this age (they are well known for covering well over 250k with ease) which is supported by 20 old Mots dating back to 1990 at 59,760 miles including the last MOT which expired in 2015 at 151,530 miles suggesting the car has seen no road use since then.
Starting promptly as we moved it around, we did notice an audible fuel pump buzz and that the brake pedal had longer than normal travel (although the brakes did appear to work) – with that in mind and the lack of current MOT we would suggest transport by trailer until this is looked at and the car MOT’d.
The history file also includes a selection of invoices for parts and maintenance pre-2015, a purchase receipt from 2008 at 146,000 miles and another dated 2007 at 131,000 miles and copy old registration documents. In the boot we find the spare wheel and tool kit roll along with sun-roof bag. The file also includes the V5C, selection of manuals and service book revealing 15 old service stamps (last in May 2005 at 130,960 miles) plus five further stamps for brake fluid/coolant changes.
