Older MGB Hive restoration on a Heritage Shell with new Gold Seal
engine; two owners from new, the current lady owner for the last 42 years; much
loved
Registered to Mr Drake as a new car in April 1978, this
Roadster remained in his care until 1982 when our vendor purchased it
through Parade Motors in Mitcham, Surrey with around 30,000 miles on the
clock.
Ever since, it has been her special-day transport and has racked
up a fair mileage and received all the love you could give.
A fresh
Unipart Gold Seal engine was fitted in 1992 at just over 100,000 miles and by
the late 1990s it was starting to look rather shabby so the owner sent the car
to the MGB Hive for a complete rebuild into a new Heritage Shell.
This included a wire wheel and chrome bumper conversion and comes with
a very detailed invoice for well over £11,300 showing the work done. By this
time it had covered some 116,000 miles.
Since then, it has been in
regular use and now shows 75,000 miles on the odometer (175,000 miles in total),
although this obviously includes a brand new shell and a replacement engine.
Moving it around the site, it feels taut and well-sorted. The doors shut
nicely with good gaps, as one would expect, although we did notice an area of
corrosion at the back of the driver's sill which could do with sorting in due
course.
Ready to be driven anywhere, we like its spec and history, having
had just two owners from new.
