Description
From a deceased estate; current owner 33 years; originally
supplied by Rootes of Piccadilly as a Thrupp & Maberly
limousine; rebodied by H Horsefield and Son; engine from a 1933
20/25
Supplied new by Rootes of Piccadilly in
1937, this Rolls-Royce (chassis number GUN5) comes with RREC paperwork
confirming that it started out in life as a 25/30 with enclosed limousine
coachwork by Thrupp & Maberly and was originally finished in black with the
registration number OC 111. The first owner was a Mr Smith of Stratton House in
Mayfair, opposite The Ritz Hotel.
At some point between the 1960s and 1983, the
original engine was changed to a 20/25 unit (number J5F) which came from a 1933
Rolls (chassis number GTZ-26, according to RREC records on
file).
A buff
logbook records three owners between 1947 and 1966. By 1983 it was owned by a Mr
P Walker of Leeds and was still a black limousine, but bills on file to the tune
of c.£5,000 imply that it was converted to the current open tourer bodywork by H
Horsefield & Son of Halifax some time in the late 1980s (their brass plaque
is also affixed to the sill).
It then came into the hands of a Shropshire
gentleman in 1991, who has owned it ever since. Sadly passing away a few years
ago, it is now being offered for sale alongside a few other cars from his
collection.
Dry stored and kept on a trickle charger, the MOT history
online shows that it was used very sparingly between 2005 and 2012, while
invoices show that it was maintained by marque specialists RR&B of
Bromsgrove. The last recorded appointment there was in 2020, but it is likely
that the car has not been driven since. At the time of writing, we have not had
it running at Brightwells, although the starter does certainly turn the
engine.
Maybe not original but elegant all the same, this is a vintage
Rolls-Royce which could be purchased for a very reasonable price.
