Ex-Cardiff Fire Service petrol Series II; extensively restored;
absolute stunner
First registered in 1961, this
Series II is still recorded on the logbook as a fire engine and
was originally adapted by Carmichael for the Cardiff Fire
Service, or so we are told.
On file, there is a detailed
photograph album showing an extensive restoration that looks like it was
completed in about the late 1980s. This kept it in Fire Service red and it was
still adorned with all the right kit for shows across the UK. The last known
photo we can find showing it in this guise online was in
2013.
After a further 12 years or
so, the then-owner decided to turn it into more of a practical vehicle, which is
what you see today. A little more traditional in the smart pale matt blue
finish, YKG 701 is now ready to go with the only Fire Service evidence being the
brass Carmichael plaque at the rear.
Running sweetly around our
site when we took these photographs, our vendor has not had it long but has
fitted the smart new canvas tilt and also still has the rear hard top, although
this will need to be collected from an address about 15 miles away from
Brightwells.
There are very few invoices on
file for this Landy, but there
are seven old MOTs on file, the last issued in 2009 and it has only
covered about 200 miles since, the odometer currently showing 80,884
miles. Don’t underestimate the time that has been spent on this Series II
to make it look as good as it looks today.
Useable, practical and it’s a
Land Rover!
