Description
Originally a taxi in Argentina; moved to Southern Ireland in the
1980s; then became part of a Shropshire collection; recently competed at various
trials including Herefordshire, Welsh and Cotswold
Thought to have been built in 1930, this Model A was apparently
originally a Taxi in Argentina – a story that has followed the car around for
some years. Bearing in mind the number of Model A’s originally in South America,
it seems quite likely, even though there is no paperwork to back this
up.
At some point it was imported to Ireland we
believe (hence the registration) and was eventually purchased to join a
Shropshire collection. By this point it was in a completely dismantled state and
was found by our vendor approximately five years ago with a view to restore her
specifically to go trialling on VSCC events.
A
competent mechanical engineer and restorer, the car was completed to a basic but
certainly drivable standard and competed at the Hereford, the Welsh and the
Cotswold Trials this year. The VSCC eligibility document on file, which was
issued in 2023, classes it as ‘MODIFIED’ due to the tyres used, which the vendor
reports help to get her up to around 50/55mph along the
straights.
Certainly running and driving while on
site with us, this could easily be added to a collection and/or be used around
and about.
