Description
Believed to be 1 of only 30 420's from 1968 left on the road
making this a rare machine; even rarer is that this car has a factory fitted
manual transmission; owned by the vendor for 25
years
1968 Jaguar 420 4 speed Manual with Overdrive – very rare car in
respectable driveable order.
The lesser spotted Jaguar 420 is a rare sight on UK roads, not
surprisingly, given Jag’s slightly confusing model range in the ‘60s. The
very pretty and devilishly sporty 420 is often misunderstood or just simply
unknown.
It was the quickest, best handling, best braking & most
powerful of all Jaguars ‘compact sporting saloons’ and we think it’s the
one to have…if you can find one. They only made approx. 10,000 across the 2
short years of production and compared with about 122,000 Mk1 & Mk2’s
produced they were rare from the off. There is believed to be only 30 cars
currently on the road from 1968, arguably one of Jaguar’s best kept
secrets.
First registered in March of 1968 this car has only had 5 owners from
new with the current vendor owning the car for the last 25
years.
Although there is no history with the car apart from 17 old MOTs, the
vendor has stated that the car was regularly maintained with thousands
spent over the years, mainly because it was used as a wedding car and
needed to be super reliable to get to the church on
time!
Back in 1987, the colour of the car was changed from Grey to the old
English White you see today with a full paint refresh in 2019.
Although the bodywork is now starting to show its age, this car still looks and
drives as you would expect.
