Only four previous keepers

Introduced in 1952, the R-Type
was essentially a larger-boot version of the Mark VI that it replaced. Like its
predecessor, in addition to the standard body, the Bentley was also available
with more bespoke bodywork via familiar firms like Mulliner & Co. and Park
Ward, and others lesser-known.
There is little difference
between the standard-bodied R-Type and the Rolls Royce Silver Dawn, but the
former proved more popular than the Rolls, which it outsold by approximately
4:1.
First registered February
1954, the example offered by our vendor here, is a later example, featuring the
straight-6 engine mated to the rarer automatic
gearbox.
Unusually for a car of this
age, it features low ownership, with the most recent owner having coveted the
vehicle for the past 28 years. Although the vendor confirms there is limited
maintenance history to accompany the vehicle, it will be sold with its original
owners manual, jack and tools, plus a complete period 1950's first aid kit. What
nostalgia!
The vendor also reports that a
new high torque starter motor has recently been sourced and fitted from the US,
at a cost of £1500.
