Rebuilt & upgraded
with Ford V6 Power; MOT exempt; extensive modifications but still keeping the
classic look and feel; electric winch fitted
This is a truly unique
and extensively rebuilt 1968 Land Rover Series IIA, blending the rugged charm of
the classic Series Land Rovers with a host of well-thought-out modern upgrades
for improved performance, reliability, and comfort.
Under the bonnet,
it’s powered by a 2.8L Ford V6 engine running on carburettors and fed by an
electric fuel pump. This engine provides significantly more power than the
original unit while maintaining a raw and mechanical driving experience. The
engine has recently had new head gaskets fitted, along with a new water pump and
a full set of gaskets throughout. A custom exhaust system has also been
installed, paired with an alloy radiator to ensure optimal cooling during
demanding use.
The original Series gearbox and differentials have been
retained, keeping the vehicle’s character intact. Mechanically, it’s had a full
brake overhaul including new brake lines, pistons, and shoes, making it safe and
confident on and off the road. The chassis has been professionally repaired,
treated, and painted, providing a solid base for years to
come.
Electrically, the vehicle has been completely rewired with two
12-way fuse boards, providing a reliable and tidy modern wiring solution. All
exterior lighting has been upgraded to LEDs, and a brand-new electric winch has
been fitted to the front, enhancing its off-road capability.
The bodywork
has been refreshed with new panels and doors, giving it a clean, sharp look
while still honouring its classic design. Inside, the vehicle features a pair of
electric heated front seats sourced from a Ford Granada, offering a surprising
level of comfort compared to the standard Series
layout.
This
Series IIA offers a rare opportunity to own a classic Land Rover that’s not only
beautifully presented but also genuinely useable and capable. It has been built
with care, combining classic styling with thoughtful upgrades that make it
suitable for both weekend adventures and regular use. MOT exempt as an historic
vehicle and is now no cost to tax, it may just need some light tinkering (ie, a
new battery) and off you go.
