Part of a considerable private collection; deceased estate; fantastic
luxury; showing 50,379 miles
Introduced in 1995,
the Bentley Azure was the marque’s flagship convertible, combining traditional
hand-built craftsmanship with effortless V8 performance and modern luxury.
Based on the Continental R, the Azure offered
open-top touring with exceptional refinement, powered by Bentley’s turbocharged
6.75-litre V8 engine. Produced in limited numbers and at considerable cost when
new, the Azure remains one of the most exclusive and recognisable Bentley models
of the late 20th century.
The youngest vehicle
from within a private collection consigned to this auction, this Azure has had
just three former keepers, including our vendor, and is showing only 50,379
miles. Like the other vehicles from the collection, it has seen very little use
in the last 18 months, but reassuringly last passed an MOT in 2024, covering
just over 50 miles since, indicating little use since.
Finished in what appears to be Peacock Blue metallic over contrasting
cream leather, this early production Azure presents well, as one would expect of
a Bentley with low ownership and mileage. The rich blue paintwork retains a good
depth and shine with only minor signs of wear and no significant dents or
scratches to note. Some wear is visible to the inner edges of the wheel arches,
where minor corrosion is beginning to appear, the worst of which has been
photographed, although this does not detract from the overall appearance of the
car.
The two-tone blue and cream leather interior
appears to have worn particularly well, with no major rips or tears evident,
while the traditional Bentley veneers present in good order. The matching blue
convertible hood remains taut, with no rips or sagging, and complements the deep
blue paintwork nicely. The roof operates correctly, although the driver’s side
rear window is currently reluctant to lower; given the car’s limited use over
the past 18 months, this has not been investigated further.
The history file shows over 15 service stamps, the majority from
Bentley main dealers, with the remainder from recognised specialists, all
recorded at regular intervals and suggesting careful maintenance. Supporting
paperwork includes invoices from Bentley for work carried out, including
replacement seals, filters, and brake components. Details of a tracker fitted to
the car are also present, indicating the vehicle was particularly well regarded
by the vendors, although the exact system fitted is unknown.
In summary, this appears a smart and striking example of one of
Bentley’s flagship convertibles, retaining the hand-built craftsmanship for
which the marque is renowned. Keenly estimated, this Azure could be enjoyed as
it stands or, with seemingly minor attention, taken to the next level, offering
elegant open-top motoring in the true Bentley tradition.
