Showing only 68,962 mile; fantastically original
condition; driven to the sale; recently replaced soft top; lots to
like and great fun to drive with a massive history file; driven by the 1.6-litre
Isuzu-sourced turbocharged inline-four engine (4XE1-MT) enhanced by
Lotus
When Lotus launched the M100
Elan in 1989, these first-run cars are
instantly recognisable by details such as the covered rear numberplate panel,
and they remain the purist’s choice — the closest expression of the
original engineering brief. With its famously sharp steering, beautifully
balanced chassis and the turbocharged 1.6-litre Isuzu-sourced turbocharged
inline-four engine (4XE1-MT) and enhanced by Lotus.
The M100
quickly earned a reputation as one of the best-handling sports
cars of its era, and the early cars are now increasingly prized by
enthusiasts.
First registered in June 1991,
this S1 Turbo example presents extremely well, the V5C showing only seven
former keepers. Finished in a vibrant red that flatters the shape, it retains
its original two-tone leather
interior, still wonderfully period and in remarkably good
order.
Showing just 68,962 miles, the
car has clearly been cherished. It was driven to the sale, starting and running
cleanly for the photographs and video. A recently replaced soft top adds further
reassurance, the car now presenting smartly both inside and
out.
The Elan is accompanied by a
massive history file, containing years of paperwork, maintenance records and
supporting documents — exactly the sort of provenance that gives confidence in a
car of this age. The current MOT is valid until March
2027.
A fantastically original and
well-kept S1
Turbo M100, offering the sharp handling, lively performance and everyday
usability that made these cars so admired when new. With its low ownership,
sensible mileage, early-car features and
excellent history, this is a particularly appealing example of Lotus’s most underrated modern
classic.
