Finished in GPO Mail Red; increasingly
uncommon Escort 35 Popular diesel van; great Junk and Disorderly
livery
Ford’s Escort-based vans were once a familiar
sight on Britain’s roads, the dependable workhorses
of small businesses, tradesmen and public services alike. The Escort 35 Popular
Diesel was the simplest and most honest of the range — rugged, economical and built to
withstand the daily grind. Survivors are now surprisingly scarce, especially
those that have avoided the usual fate of hard use, corrosion and disposal once
their working days were done.
Finished in GPO Mail Red, this 1990 example
presents as a pleasingly straight and usable van, the V5C showing only three
former keepers, a notably low number for a 35-year-old commercial vehicle. The current
MOT is valid until July 2026, and the vendor advises that the van was driven to
the sale, starting and running on site for the photographs and
video.
A simple,
honest and increasingly uncommon Escort van, offered here in running order and
with long MOT — a charming survivor from an era when Ford’s small commercials
were the backbone of Britain’s light-duty
fleet.
