A fine example of
Honda’s legendary big-bore off-road machine, this 1996 XR600R is presented in
its original colour scheme and offered in excellent riding condition.
The vendor acquired the bike part-way through a
restoration, with the engine already rebuilt, and has since completed the
remaining work to a high standard. The machine starts, runs, and rides exactly
as it should — a strong, torquey thumper ready for immediate
use.
Now upgraded with a brand-new genuine
Mikuni TM40 flatslide carburetor kit, this XR benefits from a significant
performance improvement over the original setup. The Mikuni TM40 is renowned for
delivering markedly sharper throttle response, increased torque, and stronger
power throughout the rev range, while also improving starting and simplifying
tuning.
Supplied as a complete, high-quality
kit from Japan, the carburetor includes a choke and accelerator pump, is
pre-jetted specifically for the XR600R, and comes with additional jets for
fine-tuning. It features press-fitted front and rear adapters for
straightforward installation, requiring no modifications beyond shortening the
stock inner throttle cables (nipples included).
This highly usable XR600R features Honda’s renowned four-stroke
591cc RFVC single with a 97 × 80 mm bore and stroke, 9.0:1 compression, and air
cooling, paired with a 43mm Showa cartridge fork with 8-position compression
damping, Pro-Link rear suspension with full adjustability, a 256mm front disc
brake, 134kg dry weight, 10.5-litre fuel capacity, 345.5mm ground clearance and
295mm front wheel travel.
Currently fitted with
supermoto alloy rims for enhanced road manners and also supplied with its
original off-road wheel set, it is a versatile and event-ready
machine.
Well regarded for their rugged
simplicity and long-distance durability, XR600Rs have become increasingly sought
after, particularly as more events recognise their historic significance. This
example is eligible for a wide range of historic off-road and rally events,
including the legendary SandRaiders.
